xOrthotanthus Blazing Bonsai was made by an old timer FL guy named Nat DeLeon. He let go of some plants to a select few. Those few have propagated it but still, few people have it. My xOrthotanthus, while the same cross by a friend of mine, is not Blazing Bonsai. My friend's version seems to stay smaller and clumps more than Blazing Bonsai which gets much larger. Amazing the differences of a plant of the same cross.
Billbergia Kahakai doesnt seem to keep the color and form over on the mainland. That plant was created by a person in HI. While Bills usually dont vary that much in regards to cultural differences, what ever it gets in HI, it doesnt get here to grow as it does there. Its purple over there but it loses that and the from quickly here. The result is a green plant with lesser compact foliage. It even loses the spots too!
Len, Ive had mixed results with Yellow Glow. I got a three headed plant from a friend. Broke it up and they all turned green. They eventually began to color back after they rooted but never as before I broke them up. I sold one, gave one away and kept a third which now looks like crap. That big YG I gave a teaspoon of fert this summer. I expected it to turn green but it got even more yellow.
