I have several plants from Altmans. I have seen a few errors, but I am happy they make the effort to label their plants. There are multiple mass market growers that make no attempt, what so ever, to label their plants. Some only put in labels of "cactus" and "succulent" and get that wrong part of the time. I am also sympathetic to the logistical challenge of labeling tens of thousands of plants and hoping the labels stay in place in stores where many of the clerks could care less about labels than they do their pathetic care of the plants. A corroborating witness swears that Galt purportedly was seen handling a 6-inch "succulent plant" and overheard mildly cursing under his breath: "Sheet, there's no A. parrasana in this puppy!"
![]() Hearsay has it he's also been sniffin' round ghostlike near Kelly & Allen's digs! ![]() Better reign him in, Matt! The Monger P.S. While reconnoitering Altman Specialty Plants website for information related to a different (Aloe I.D.) post, there it was in all it's glory: Agave Parrasana 'Confederate Rose'. Must 'a been a highly decorated veteran of the Bloody Road campaign...

Whatever that enthusiastic pupper sold at the Big Box stores is, I have it, it is not the parrasana pictured at the start of this thread, and I am glad to have it! But then I am no agave expert.... I just wonder how hardy it is here. The USDA says I am in 7B but the Arbor Day foundation, using data from 1995 through 2005, places me at the north edge of 8A. Last winter was the coldest in a decade, we got down to about 10 to 12 degrees F every night for a week. I had all agaves inside, just in case.
