Excellent pictures of A. parrasana...

Here are two videos with my A. parrasana in the mix:

Enjoy.

I have one of those Altman A. 'Confederate Rose' hybrids, too. It's a nice little plant - grows quickly and offsets vigorously - but I would be surprised if it has any Parrasana in it. Comparing it to others in my little collection, I'd guess it's a Potatorum hybrid of some kind, as others have already said.

Those Parrasana habitat pictures are fantastic.

I like the 'FireBall' variegate too, Allen! So many things I want from your online store...

Default correct labels ???

I have several plants from Altmans. I have seen a few errors, but I am happy they make the effort to label their plants. There are multiple mass market growers that make no attempt, what so ever, to label their plants. Some only put in labels of "cactus" and "succulent" and get that wrong part of the time. I am also sympathetic to the logistical challenge of labeling tens of thousands of plants and hoping the labels stay in place in stores where many of the clerks could care less about labels than they do their pathetic care of the plants. Hey Matt!

Could you please ask John to speed up the release of those R.F.G.'s ?

The gentry is getting restless!

Just mongering around...

Thumbs up Newsflash: Steadfast observer states John Galt seen perusing plants at local Big Box

A corroborating witness swears that Galt purportedly was seen handling a 6-inch "succulent plant" and overheard mildly cursing under his breath: "Sheet, there's no A. parrasana in this puppy!"

Hearsay has it he's also been sniffin' round ghostlike near Kelly & Allen's digs!

Better reign him in, Matt!

The Monger

P.S. While reconnoitering Altman Specialty Plants website for information related to a different (Aloe I.D.) post, there it was in all it's glory: Agave Parrasana 'Confederate Rose'. Must 'a been a highly decorated veteran of the Bloody Road campaign...

Default The parrasana that isn't

Whatever that enthusiastic pupper sold at the Big Box stores is, I have it, it is not the parrasana pictured at the start of this thread, and I am glad to have it! But then I am no agave expert.... I just wonder how hardy it is here. The USDA says I am in 7B but the Arbor Day foundation, using data from 1995 through 2005, places me at the north edge of 8A. Last winter was the coldest in a decade, we got down to about 10 to 12 degrees F every night for a week. I had all agaves inside, just in case.
