"Guilty as charge"........
Paul, you got it wrong. I didn´t clarify about the pics, though. Rafa was asking that agave id in another plant forum and I tried to help him asking about them on GOTE, though it was a dead end. I thought the pictures were from his yard (rafa also didn´t clarify that in his original message) and now I know they´re not his. I didn´t notified rafa about asking agave id in other plant forums since figure it out they´re not so easy to id (it´s obvious nobody could id it there also)... etc. hope you get my point. ![]() hope it´s all crystal clear now. leomx (mx = méxico). cheers. |

I see.
(said the blind man) I always get extremely suspicious of anomalies like this on the internet - it is plagued by trolls and people who seem intent on causing trouble for it's own sake. In all innocence this time but, as someone once said, just because you are paranoid it doesn't mean they aren't out to get you ![]() My trip is getting closer, Leo... end of February... |

Here is a picture I took of Agave hiemiflora just north of San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas - it does show a resemblance, for sure, though the rosette is a lot fuller on this plant. This population is the only time I have seen this - it isn't seen in the UK and I haven't seen it in a collection 'abroad' - so I have no idea as to whether this is representative of the type or not.

I'm not that familiar with the group Hiemiflorae, so can only speculate. Looking in Gentry though, the leaf margins of A. hiemiflora appear to be more crenate while those of A. pachycentra are straighter. Granted, that's just from a couple of pictures and a drawing. The other note is that leaves of A. heimiflora are smooth while those of A. pachycentra are rough. Hence the reason for my earlier post on the leaf surface texture.
