Default Aloe 'Lizard Lips' and 'Snowflake'

Hey everyone,

I have had 2 plants from different people and they say they are A. 'Lizard Lips'. They look a bit different and just wanted to know if anyone has the 'real deal' to compare it to. Same thing with A. 'Snowflake' if possible.

While we are on the topic of A. 'Snowflake', is it an A. rauhii hybrid or a form of A. rauhii?

Thanks very much,
Wesley

Here are the pictures of what I have of the 2 above mentioned plants:

First: Aloe 'Lizard Lips' from a friend of mine:

Second: Another plant I received as 'Lizard Lips':

Next is the one plant I got as A. 'Snowflake':

Another one I got as A. 'Snowflake':

Please could you help me identify them.

Many thanks

The first and the third appear the same. I suspect they are all hybrids with rauhii in them. Here is the thing, when people cross plants they often have multiple seedlings and often they are all slightly different but some how all of them make it into cultivation instead of just the best one and that leads to more confusion. More on this in a blog! and yes I have unwillingly and unintentionally contributed to that by selling "seconds"

"Lizard Lips" at the Huntington looks more like the second plant.

In terms of which hybrids are 'best', I find that a very subjective issue. Illegitimate naming of plants is more a problem it seems.

I am being repeatedly ignored by the RHS in my attempts to get an ICRA for the genus Aloe going. I am not sure how to proceed further ... anyone have any thoughts or ideas? An email blitz from interested parties?

Thanks Kelly and Tim for your replies, I really like that second one, flowers well and suckers well, the color is real nice too!

Now I need to find out which is the real A. 'Snowflake'!

Thanks again,
Wesley
