Default Not lutea

Since "lutea" refers to yellow, this would be the key that the plant is mislabeled. Check out Pilbeam's new Stapeliads book. All 686 photos. I have seen this plant before, so I will thumb through my book and see if I can key it out. Possibly Orbea ubombonsis.

There are red forms of Orbea lutea (and ssp. vaga) so do not discount this when looking for ID confirmation.

thanks Boo, for the book recommendation. $59 for this book, just a bit too much for my meager salary :-/

Tim, I googled the red form, but it looks like those are not sold maroon but have some yellow in them.

thank you both!!

It seems like stapeliae are not 'in' anymore

Nothing wrong with Stapeliads - the fans are just not on here.

I went through Bruyns' book, Stapeliads of Africa and Madagascar, and the best match for your plant is indeed Orbea lutea.

thanks Tim, for checking for me, really nice of you.

And William, that's a nice collection. I don't own any Ceropegia, just a few of the 'stinky stars' ...

Evelyn

here's one of my favorites, Stapelia grandiflora:

I would agree about the flower color not discounting the ID.

I got some of this a couple of years back and there were several different flower colors and forms which is often typical of seed collections. I did not say hybrid seed.

Often plants are named on characteristics that one collection has when the species might be broader then originally thought. The concept of a green titanota is difficult for some to accept!

Not difficult to accept, just waiting for the botanical description to be properly expanded to include them!

Default it's this time of year again....

Hello everyone :-)

this little stapeliad of mine is flowering again.
I did a bit more digging and was told it most likely is Orbea decaisneana

Since I don't like loose ends, I figured I post in case someone else is digging for just that one ;-)

Thank you, Gone Tropical, for the follow up post. It is very appreciated and many of us find it frustrating to be left hanging in an undecided thread.

May you see much success with your plants!
