Briliantly correct my dear. You are positively right and correct. The taxonomist in fact had a Hechtia in hands and described a Dyckia. A mistake quite commom with our plants when taxonomists relied on bushmen to get their hands into new plants. This is what the guy should have get into. This is not yet clear. The description refer to a plant with this looks and so from Serra do Lenheiro in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This is from Minas Gerais Brazil, Serra do Lenheiro. But Dyckia are no monocarpic. (The endemic to Brazil only, the Encholirium are and are exactely as Dyckyas but monocarpic plants.)Technically Dyckia argentea is a mistake a scientific mistake for sure and does not exist. But what do you think about this non existent one here? Do not ever forget besides non existing it also blooms and blooms in a multitude of seasons and life celebration.
In Dyckia we have many mistakes. As last frontier plants we find everything even taxonomic gems as this which in my opinion adds to their fame and curiosity. Dyckias still represents last chance to those who think to have their names linked to a plant something worthwhile. Dyckias are extremely difficult to be classified corectely as they have many faces and looks and just show the final mask when adult flowering plants. This makes some taxonomists fall down from their horses in a rare frequency. This plant grows to almost one meter across rossettes. They also get into a blue metalic sheen. Thank you to have followed my writings here and there. Great and thanks. There is a describet Dyckia and accept worldwide as correct that can not make a single seed. The plant is fantastic in all senses but: how a Dyckias species would survive in nature without making their seeds viable or something like that be a species? But ....this is another history ... Thanks. Last edited by Constantino; 11-28-2009 at 12:13 AM. Reason: ever the spelling |

Let us celebate the greatest joy of plant keeping: to meet new people, find new ideas, develop our senses and feelings.
...and when we are sad, feeling down imagine a red rocky cliff in Arizona, imagine some agaves shinning in the sunset sun. Feel the cold breeze on your face. Deep breath and celebrate life in its multitude of experiencies. Sometimes the words are useless and unnecessary and wisdon is a well with no eccoe. Say cheers and go on celebrating life and give thanks for it is not so limited, for we have choices and we have friends. I just got a wonderful gift. An american guy just told me he is sending me e my Xmas gift: dwarf rare aloes, some cute hybrids Dyckias and guess what? Minute agaves. I am praying all gods the package arrive safetly at my door step. He lives in a very cold place in USA. I wonder those tiny agaves...wow. He already sent A. victoria reginae compact form and variegated that already has a sprout on its base. Guess it is a plant made in a lab.,a beautiful meristemic plant. I saw some Huge Agave here in some pics some big A. montana and titanota.. they are beautiful fantastic wonderful plants. Guess I cannīt have any A. montana it is to hot here, just up the hills maybe. Nice answer of yours. God bless us all. |
