Default Crassula Hybrid ID

I ended up with this cool little Crassula hybrid a year or two ago. It was one of those plants that someone hands you when they drop by, then you set it down and forget about it until you can't remember where it came from

I think it might have been Ken (amarguy) who brought it over. I do remember that I was told it was a Hybrid done by someone local and that it was picked up at the Quail Plant sale. Possibly it originates at the garden..... It has been a slow grower, and done very well in the ground in a spot that gets very little water.
It has been in flower for what seems like about two months now and really has turned out to be a cool little plant. I would guess that it has C. falcata in it by the flower and leaf structure, but I don't have a clue as to it's real parentage.

At Agave Summit II, a few locals recognized the plant and commented on it, but I would like to know if anyone knows more about the plant as I think I will propagate it a bit.

Jeremy? Ken?

That's Crassula 'Quail's delight' ....sounds like bird food, better change that name too. I know it has C. falcata genes, but I'll leave it to Jeremy or someone else to tell more.

Hey Allen,

Nice plant ... I too, would suspect C.falcata genes. You didn't get it from me, however ... save a cutting for me if you can!

It can be said without about 99% certainty that it's Crassula falcata x capitella. They were right next to each other and the only ones in bloom when some flying creature likely did the cross. I agree with Matt that it sounds like bird food, perhaps creature would be a better name? Just to mention, the best plants come from pups or even more so by leaf cuttings and they produce prolifically.

Thanks Jeremy,

So did you sow the seed and grow the original plant then?

One plant was found growing up in the bottom of a falcata pot. To propagate just pull, better than to cut, a leaf off and try to get some of the base, then just stand it up in some pumice out of full sun and that's it. If you cut the flower it produces more plants around the leaf bases as well.

I can totally see both those plants in the hybrid. Good call Jeremy!. Thanks for the tips. So do you mind if we come up with a better name for it..... Especially now that the name Quail is on it's way out also.....

Allen
