That's great. Any idea of where it can be found in habitat?

Default E. subrigida

It occurs on cliffs with Mammilaria pringlei in the Mexican state of Mexico FD near Toluca. We also found another form of it in Jalisco very near the Michoacan border.

It certainly does look good, Geoff! I recently bought one from the SDCSS sale (I believe it was one of Matt Maggio's-thanks, Matt!) I love the look of this one!

Default Does this fall within Echeveria subrigida?

This came as seed from Brian Kemble but does quite fit what I see in John Philbeams book The Genus Echeveria! Are there green forms of E. subrigida? I only got one plant to germinate so I don't have anything to compare to. Its 17 months old and about 12" across.

A decade ago or so, there was not so much of this plant around but Brian and I collected some seed with thanks due to Arturo Anaya. It was growing on cliffs near toluca slightly north of Mexico City. C and J had some seed and Huntington as well as Rancho Soledad and it is now grown at RTT as well.

Same with cante which we collected in Zacatecas.

This latest plant is one that Brian, Julia Etter and I found growing with Echeveria patriotica (nayaritensis?) in Jalisco. It looks like a form of subrigida how it differs is it has crinkled leaves that are longer and skinnier as well and it is much less "frosted" the flowers are similar but again without plume or dusting on the flowers and stalks. That said it is not as different to me as it is similar. Some seedlings of the other form of subrigida came up with very crinkled leaves and so the variation to me is just that.

If you look up subrigida you should see reference to E. palmeri which is essentially a green form of subrigida but of a more typical shape that is flat rounded leaves not acuminate like this one.

So what is it? a different form of E. subrigida or a new species or an intergrade between subrigida and nayaritensis.

Jury is out!

Ask Brian!

Default Annie's Annuals

Carl - I have purchased and killed the green form from plants offered by Annie's Annuals. She has them labeled as E. subrigida. I guess my hand at this particular Echeveria is too firm/heavy. They just don't thrive. I think her soil mix is too rich and I should have potted it up into a different media. Nice plant though in your pic.

Default Don't give up there time to kill another!

I wish I had half the plants that I have killed in my life! That's why I prefer seeds a cheaper kill - if its meant to be!
I'm growing this spring (in Argentina) 83 species and cultivars of Echeveria mostly from KOEHRES Seeds Germany. Have had about 90% germination - I recommend them highly! How many will rot this time..... Echeveria strictiflora, Echeveria colorata again!!!
Where is Aromas?
Wish it was possible to note state or country so answers could be address with that climate in mind.

I love subrigida's! I've put them all over the place and they have been flowering for me non-stop all year. Here's some pics I took today
