Nice Ken!

Here's a very worth form of the summer growing B. disticha from Northern Namibia, with 3" wide leaves.

VERY VERY nice, Tim! Save me some pollen when it blooms ... or better yet, some seeds! I thought most summer growing Boophones had wavy leaves, but apparently not. Northern Namibia? Does it receive any summer H2O? I have been providing periodic/limited water to those of mine which appear to be summer growers. Would that be your advice?
Here's a shot of some not-quite 3-year old seedlings I have in the ground:

It only gets summer rainfall up there, when it gets any. I haven't seen any flowers - could always be a new species of course

Default hybrid Boophone X Amarygia seed?

On one of 3 other Boophone disticha bulbs which bloomed for me in July this year, I used 2-yr old frozen/saved pollen from a 2008 white X Amarygia bloom. Several of the 'fruits' have begun to split, revealing white/opalescent seeds. In the past, I've only seen Boophone disticha seeds that are green or greenish-yellow. While this inflorescence/infructescence is the same age as those of its neighboring 2 bulbs, its fruit seems to have grown larger and developed more quickly than the others, on which I used Boophone disticha pollen. I don't think these are quite 'ready' yet as the fruit skin has not turned papery yet, as is usually the case with Boophone. The pic of the white flowering X Amarygia is the pollen parent. Seeds it produced (by selfing) that year were pure white also.

Default I KNOW they are common ... but ...

Still, I really like the foliage. A couple groupings of not quite 4 year old Boophone disticha bulbs grown from seed. I wish I had been more careful to plant them so that the distichous foliage of each bulb was more or less parallel to each other.

Here are a couple of pictures of the plant I showed earlier in the thread, in flower. In addition to having quite dark-colored flowers, the seed head is much larger than any others of this species I have seen.

Default Tim's Boophone

Very impressive, Tim! I like both the wide leaves and the richer coloration in the blooms. Did you play bumblebee? Did you have another Boophone in bloom or had you saved pollen from a previous bloom?

Ken

There were a couple of other Boophone flowering, but winter growers, and not particularly nice ones. I'll wait until I have a couple from the same place in flower.

I did try crosses with Ammocharis and Crinum, and seem to have some seed on all three.
