Talking Hi all!

Hello,
What a great forum! The info and dialog is impressive! I live in Southern Cal. and love collecting plants. I have quite a few Australian plants like Proteas. Lately, I have been obsessed with succulents, collecting, and making pots for them.

The lawn got a dose of roundup to make more room.

Yes, welcome.

It would be remiss of me not to point out that Proteas are from South Africa, not Australia. Banksia, which are from Australia, are often mistaken for Protea.

Just maintaining Allen's standard :-)

Default family name Proteaceae

I guess I was referring to the family name Proteaceae not the genus, often referred to as Proteas. This naming has been approved by the International Protea association. Proteaceaes can be found in Australia, South Africa and South America and a scattering of other places. I think of them all incorrectly as Australian because over the years I have bought several from

After checking my references it does look like the genus protea, commonly known as Sugar Bushes originate from Africa though new hybrids are developed everywhere.
