Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I don't login very often and didn't know I had this message. Most of my hillside is rock. Every time I dig a hole, up come more boulders and rocks. The soil is mostly hard clay. The only problems I have with soil erosion is when a hole I had previously dug gets filled with soil from above and then girdles whatever plant is there. The succulents usually are able to weather this out until I go around in the Spring to trough out the soil buildup but this kills some of the young trees I plant out. The wet soil girdles the base above the normal soil line and rots the bark and base.

Fundamentally, to answer your question, I have so many rocks that none of them are able to erode and slip down the hill.

That yard must've taken you months to complete! Very cool. I am wondering though, what did you do so that your rocks don't slide down the hills/slopes? I'm trying to make a little aloe garden by making mounds so that the drainage gets better but need a way to keep the rocks on top of the mound and not sliding all down it. Thanks!
