Default Kalanchoe beharensis - make it branch... or flower?

I have a nice single stemmed K. beharensis that's about 5' tall and... well OK it's not that nice: I wish it would branch out!

Should I chop the top off (aaaah!) and replant the entire top? And hope the stem sprouts? It's such a slow grower... I don't really want to have to hide it for a couple years till it looks OK again...

What about flowering - the web says that happens when the plant is "mature" but I've had mine about 8 years and no luck. Assuming it branches after flowering (?) how long am I looking at?
