Default How to tell c cincinalis from c. thouarsii

How does one tell the difference between c cincinalis from c. thouarsii in plants with a 10" caudex?

What are the differentiating qualities, other than the cones. I know that when they eventually cone it should be simple to tell,

To me, there's a dime's worth of difference between circinalis and thoursii. But I'm an encephalartos grower, by and large, so the Cycas people will have to chime in here to help with the nuances of these two.

Having said that, the Australian Cycas blue species -- cairnsiana, couttsiana, ophiolitica, etc. -- are knock-out gorgeous and deserve high praise among the blue cycads.

Cycas cairnsiana 17 year old grown in Hawaii from seed.
